What to Consider When Choosing a Campsite
Car rental and camping in Uganda is a magical and rewarding journey through Uganda. Famously known as diverse with a good climate and safety that gives any independent traveler a chance camp under the stars outside and enjoy the sights & sounds of nature, the scenery and cool breeze.
If you would like to enjoy your camping experience, consider buying firewood in advance, otherwise, only collect dead wood. And always extinguish your campfire before going to bed. Pack up all of your food, garbage and laundry before you leave your campsite unattended to and avoid unwanted visitors.
If you’re on an independent game drive, stay in your vehicle at all times. And please remember to drink plenty of liquids, apply and re-apply sunscreen and protect your eyes with a pair of sunglasses and some kind of headwear.
There are spots in the parks that are meant for camping, The camping areas are mostly managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the local community or the lodge camping grounds that are privately managed. Stay comfortable throughout the night without having to carry the gear from your home country. Just be prepared for anything.
ISHASHA WILDERNESS CAMP
Ishasha wilderness camp is located within the heart of Queen Elizabeth National park adjacent to Ntungwe River. It’s a famous habitat for the tree climbing Lions. Its the only lavishness camp in the Ishasha sector. The camp is strategically located to favor both Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Queen Elizabeth Forest along with Kibale Forest.
The camp is well designed with luxury tents that are fully self contained. Each tent has an African style and are located in the wooded area across the river with excellent facilities such as en suite bathrooms and Eco-friendly toilets. UWA CAMPSITE IN MURCHISON
The UWA Campsite is located in the southern sector of Murchison falls national park offering simple budget accommodation to travelers, the campsite is an ideal place to experience Africa wilderness and get entangled with whispers of the wild in a set up tent.
This UWA campsite is under the management of the Uganda Wildlife Authority an organization responsible for the conservation of wildlife and their habitats. The camping grounds are available visitors can come around with their own camping facilities and pay less.

NKURINGO GORILLA CAMP-BWINDI
The great campsite which offers all commodities to be very comfortable at literally 5 minutes walking distance from the Nkuringo gorilla park entrance. The campsite offer all the comfort you are willing to pay for. It has great food, comfortable and very clean rooms. The staff is extremely helpful. The campsite is on the edge of the Nkuringo community which you will want to visit and interact with its people.
People who stay here simply rave about the location. There is a hike here to the top of the world and look into the Democratic Republic of Congo. You are in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and from here you can access the gorillas at Nkuringo and also at Rushaga.
RED CHILLI REST CAMP IN MURCHSION
Red Chilli is superbly located to explore Murchison. The camp is at Paraa on the southern banks of the River Nile in the heart of the park, 500 metres from the Paraa ferry, where all vehicles cross the Nile for game drives around the Nile Delta, and where boats can be hired for game viewing and sport fishing.
The camp has a restaurant that serves both international and local cuisines and a fully stocked bar. The opening hours are usually from 6.30 am to9.30pm. The bar is open up to midnight. There is a set camp fire that will give all the warmth you need and you can enjoy your meals as well. The camp manages tours to and from Kampala at a low cost.
BUHOMA COMMUNITY REST CAMP
Buhoma Community Rest Camp is positioned just close to Bwindi Impenetrable National parks with an inspiration of establishing an excellent lodge with high quality services that suits both tourists and visitors. The campsite provides;- An extensive as well as designed camping grounds just close to Bwindi Forests, Well stocked bar and restaurant with a wonderful stuff that prepares both international and local cuisines, Full night entertainment with dance and drama.
The bandas have a touch of an African Architectural design and the six bandas are fully furnished with about 4 beds that will favor all groups of tourists. Within the Buhoma rest camp are occasional visits from gorillas this are seen whilst in the camp.
BWINDI VIEW BANDAS CAMP
Bwindi View Bandas is a budget accommodation but it was built out of the banda trees to portray a beautiful view overlooking the Impenetrable forest. It’s a short distance to the park. KAKINE CAMPSITE – KIDEPO
Kakine Campsite is very close to Kidepo National park’s headquarters offering budget accommodation to tourist on safaris to Kidepo Valley National Park. Like Apoka Rest Camp, tourists are advised to come along with their camping gear too. The camp’s management provides firewood and drinking water to their guests. Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) takes ownership and management of this camp and can therefore provide more information about it.
The camp’s main objective is to give travelers and guests a camping experience and encounter in the wilderness. The camp also provides firewood and clean water. This camp is one in a wilderness you will indeed love to explore on a selfdrive.
APOKA REST CAMP (UWA) – KIDEPO
Apoka Rest camp is found in the Kidepo valley national park are north of northern Uganda situated in the westerly Narus valley with accommodation in 10 thatched rondavels. The Camp has fourteen bandas which has two beds suited inside however the rooms are not self contained.
Apoka Rest Camp has a large and clear compound which is greatly used for camping. If your interested in camping, you can secure yourself a camping ground, however you carry your own camping gears since the lodge only provide for you’re a camping ground. The lodge does not have a running restaurant; you will need to carry your own food while on the trip.
QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
The park is inhabited by 96 species of mammals, including healthy numbers of hippos, elephants, lions and leopards as well as chimps and hyenas. The remote Ishasha sector, in the far south of the park, is famous for its tree-climbing lions; these females, who enjoy spending the long, hot afternoons snoozing photogenically in fig trees, are the most memorable sight in the entire park, but don’t miss the superb birdlife.
